Liberals, Conservatives square off on Algoma Steel jobs, food bank use and Joly called out on pledge
With news on Monday that Algoma Steel is planning to lay off about 1,000 workers due to U.S. tariffs, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly stood up in the House of Commons during question period to respond to comments from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre. “My team and I have been in contact with Algoma’s leadership team — we absolutely have every confidence in the Algoma workers as they’re going through this hardship… We’ll fight for these jobs,” Joly said.
